8th Feb 2009 - A small Sam Smiths pub hidden away by St Barts. Opinion is usually split over this pub, you either love it or loathe it.

The pub has two bars, a fairly basic but charming one downstairs and a slightly more comfy one upstairs with sofas.

The downstairs bar is open all the time and has a dartboard and some board games and can get fairly busy at lunch and after work. The dart board is in regula use from the small gang of regulars.

The upstairs bar isn't open as much as it should be, seemingly only during busy times and sometimes not even then.

Food is ok but Sam Smiths recently standardised their menus across all pubs. It used to be down to the landlord and this pun in particular has come off worse for the change.

It has a high turn over of Landlords, one once told me that it was used as training pub for new mangaers due to it's smallish size.

29th Jul 2008 - I 've just found this pub last week and I think i'ts a real traditional English pub. I took my kids for Sunday Roast and I was very impressed.
I will strongly recommend it to other people!!!!

6th Dec 2004 - Being a Sam Smiths pub, The Rising Sun is cheap and simple, which makes it great in my book. A proper locals pub, you always find a seat and it doesn't take long to get a beer. The dart board and the quiz night on a Tuesday also help to make this one of my favourite pubs near the meat market. It used to be my work local, but I don't go in so much any more as the hangover from the Samuels Smith's beer can be quite debilitating.

12th Nov 2004 - I've always had a soft spot for the 'Sun', no particular reason - it's pretty standard, but quiet and a bit hidden away if you just want quick, and easy cheeky one after work.

21st Oct 2004 - Once witnessed a man who'd pooed himself in this pub which put me off ever since (ok it was about 3 years ago but still...). Cheap beer (though Sam Smiths lager is always a bit funny tastin). Cheapish food, darts, quiz night. Nothing spectacular here really.
