5th Mar 2012 - This is definitely a tourist pub. It was very busy with people surrounding the bar but I was still served pretty quickly despite the bar lady enquiring as to wether I wanted nut or crisps like I was some kind of imbecile who had forgotten to finish my order. The crowd seemed to be mostly made up of people hovering over tables trying to get a seat and stag doos beginning there pub crawls in crappy fancy dress costumes. Drinking is not a game do it properly in the appropriate attire not wearing a giant cardboard box so you look like a dice and knock everyone within 6ft of you around the pub. Lots of sherlock memorabilia all around the room but it just seemed a bit fake. Not a place for a relaxing pint, more of an emergency pit stop.

5th Aug 2009 - Something is amiss when a pub called the Sherlock Holmes has a date of establishment some 140 years before the first publication of the worlds best-known heroin-addicted violin-playing fictional sleuth. The explanation is, of course, tourism. Formerly the Northumberland Arms, the Sherlock Holmes has a well-kept exterior but is rather dowdy inside. The menu is mundane, drinks selection slightly above average and the locals are anything but, with the exception of open-top bus operators who stop in for their lunch.
