17th Dec 2009 - I've been visting Flanagan's for the best part of 20 years and have seen some highs and lows. Without doubt, it's heyday was the early 90s with Lenny Napier rocking the basement bar every Saturday. One man, one guitar and god knows how many people crammed in. There was a bit of a bad patch when they went all studenty and painted everything black, but luckily that didn't last long. It's a pub that needs to be busy, and nowadays it's a bit hit and miss, the good nights are the best around and the bad nights, well, it's empty.

Flanagan's is famous for live bands, and usually has two on each weekend (one upstairs, one downstairs) and sometimes even one tucked in the middle. The Hooley's were the house band for many years (Hi Mick!) and were fantastic.

Anyway, it's Irish, cheap and on Mathew Street and usually has several Scandinavians in there. A place not to be missed - I just hope you go on one of it's good days.

16th Dec 2009 - One of my personal favourites in Liverpool. Flanagan's is set on three floors; the main bar, upstairs and the cellar. Most nights you will find a band on in the cellar. With its low ceiling and close proximity to the band you cant fail to dance like an idiot with your mates/bird to whatever music is playing. The beer is always cold, the prices are always decent (£3 a pint last time i was in) and you don't have to wait to long at the bar. An essential bar to visit in Liverpool's most famous of streets.
