25th Feb 2013 - We went for Sunday lunch and it was very pleasant. The food was excellent, and the service was pretty well delivered too. My only complaint was being told that the roast beef was cooked medium to well done due to the 'recent horse scandal'. I ordered the beef anyway, and was then told they had run out. I ordered the pork which was amazing, and then watched the staff bring beef out to other customers later on. When quizzed on this they explained that they didn't realise another one was being cooked. Keep it simple guys - don't lie to your customers.

If you don't like children it probably isn't best to go for a quiet meal here on a Sunday lunchtime. The ratio of adults:children:dogs is not conducive to too much grown up conversation being available.

It is a good place though (more of a place to spend a Sunday afternoon than a pub) and the beer garden is pretty nice, especially when it's more than 2 degrees. It does become busy.

It receives a 4 because it is an above average pub and is worth a visit.

3rd Jan 2011 - Very large and rather posh gastro on the edge of Hampstead Heath. I'll stop short of calling it lavishly decorated but the fact is that this pub is rather well turned out; as are the clientelle who frequent it. Good selection of beers and as you would expect a fine looking menu. It's the sort of place that you end up at for dinner after an amble through Hampstead or walking the dog on the heath; that said there's not very much left that you could call true pub or traditional so it's not going to suit all tastes.

5th Aug 2007 - This place used to be younger crowd, but now has succomed to a rich, older crowd and largely food based. Huge garden space which is the main reason to come -but then its right next to the heath so you coulkd always go there! Staff a bit chaotic and it was incresdibly busy int he (weekend daytimes) I've been there recently.

11th Jul 2005 - Right next to Hampstead Heath, this gastro 'pub' has got a huge, well-kept beer garden with its own water feature. It's quite a posh looking place, but is surprisingly cheaper than it looks. Food is served in a restaurant-part which you possibly have to book a table for. Child and dog friendly.

21st Jun 2005 - Almost a gastro pub but the great garden and big bar save it from becoming bland. Apparently they have skittles too downstairs which is somewhat of a rarity in London. The food smelt lovely and the menu looked like it was fairly good value for money. The only downside was having to wait nearly half an hour for a drink on a Saturday night...unimpressed with that but still v much worth a visit especially in the summer.
