The White Bear

You're barred - the landlord's view

We are a traditional family run pub, which has avoided going down the trendy bar route, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble for us.

All our food is sourced locally, freshly prepared & cooked on the premises. Our regulars describe our food as 'gastro' without the over inflated 'gastro' prices. If you don’t see something on the menu you fancy, please ask at the bar – we will always oblige if we can. We also have a dining room upstairs, which seats 30 + & can be used between 12 & 4 pm. We are happy to hire it out for meetings between 10am & 5 pm.

We are an Arsenal pub but show all Sky sport events. We have a dart board, which can be used when not busy. The first Tuesday of every month is Quiz night, with cash prizes.

The pub can be hired at weekends for any event, including parties/weddings/christenings etc.

On Friday evenings our regulars & new customers all come & join in the merry antics and good times!

See you at the bar...

3rd Oct 2008 - UPDATE: Well, since the end of neanderthal smoking rules, places like The Bear go up in my estimation. Traditional pubs with a frindly attitude, interesting clientele and good facilities become pleasant places to dip in and out of, watch a match or spend the whole evening in. Up from a 5 to a 6.

PREVIOUS REVIEW: Well, it's OK, but falls into the smoky end of the pub-smoke continuum. Roll on the 2007 legislation. Prices are easy to understand cos all pints cost the same. Novel, and good for Guiness drinkers where most places add a premium. They are friendly mind you, and the addition of loads of TV screens adds to the appeal in my view.

2nd Oct 2008 - After its redecoration, The White Bear looks a lot more up to date but thankfully still has its pub vibe. The food has improved greatly - still pub grub & good value for money. Always fun for a quick drink or an evening out chatting to the very friendly bar staff. They now do a monthly quiz night which is worth checking out.

16th Sep 2008 - Small pub on St John Street that manages to avoid getting any of the pre-Fabric crowd that dominates the area on club nights. Good food, mainly due to the large contingent of black cab drivers that use the upstairs restaurant. It has had a lick of paint and some new furniture and a new menu. Always packed out if there is a football match or big sporting event on as it is just about the only place in the area to show sport. Great staff, good food and a friendly atmosphere make this a place well worth a visit if you're nearby.

4th Mar 2005 - This is a proper pub and by that I mean you really could not mistake it for a bar or a gastro pub. It sells cheap beer in jugs, has a few seats outside on the pavement, it sells food that will fill you up, and the bar staff are very friendly. I think it's great.

18th Nov 2004 - This is a good pub with good food and friendly staff. Recommend the chilli which is hot enough. Nothing to complain about is main plus point.

9th Sep 2004 - This is a great little pub - the bar staff are friendly, the beer's cheap (if you buy it in four-pint jugs, that is), the food's not bad and reasonably priced. They play good music too sometimes.

You can sit outside in the summer (and being a British summer, they'll put the awning down for you when it starts raining).

It's a proper pub... you could definitely do a lot worse.

7th Sep 2004 - The White Bear is a friendly pub with nice prices. 4 pint jugs of any beer can be had for 9 and there's usually a food and a pint offer on for lunch.

The bar staff are friendly, and the music they put on is always interesting to say the least.

It's a bit small, but you can normally get a seat unless the football is on.

We go in there a lot, it's a nice place (and its cheap).
