20th May 2010 - Yet another refurb. It's gone a bit artdeco/70s diner with a modern twist. Walls now have some sort of carpet on them which has affected the acoustics. The one constant with the Castle is the lack of bar staff, and there are at least three beers off at any one time. Ok, two constants.

13th Feb 2009 - The castle is busy, usually friendly, has sierra nevada pale ale on tap (v v good) and quirky-interesting but not overly so. The food is OK, but not a reason to go there.

10th Feb 2009 - The Castle is the pub I most frequently...frequent in Farringdon. No doubt, a significant reason for its apparent popularity is its extemely close proximity to the tube station. Many people comment on the choice of decoration, which can only be described in one word...black. I, personally, favour the choice, which I feel is fairly unique for it as a pub. The food is not particularly impressive, although there is plenty of space, which is a good thing as it can get busy. Perhaps they could consider changing a few members of staff, given the welcome we were faced with on trying to enter the pub at opening time, only to be told to effectively clear off and for an acquaintance to have entered the pub very shortly afterwards. This experience has unfortunately tainted my view of a pub I rated quite highly.

29th Sep 2008 - The Castle has been at a consistently above-average level for the last few years, though it must be said that it has seen better and worse spells over this time. Menu was very good, middled out but is on the up again. Selection of beers is, as always good, though invariably there will be some percentage that will have run out and in that sense it's pot luck, abit like the service as you can be left waiting for quite a while at the bar. For all this though, the Castle still has a great atmosphere, is spacious but can also be cosy, and can't really be beat for that one drink after work.

13th Sep 2004 - I don't really like the recent refit, but it still retains some of the essence of a pub rather than a bar. The best feature is the pay by the hour pool tables. Nothing special but OK if you just need to meet someone by the tube station.

9th Sep 2004 - i've only been to The Castle once, and I had an enjoyable time there. the poolroom upstairs is a nice place to relax, but still engage in some pub exercise. i'm feeling generous, so i'll give The Castle a four.

7th Sep 2004 - Recently been trendified - basically they've just painted everything inside black to attract the Fabric crowd on Friday nights. For somewhere that has a sign offering to top up your beer if the head's too big, they don't do a very good job at getting it right the first time round. Bit of boom boom trendy music going on but I suppose that would get you in the mood for Fabric.
